Cinematography is at the heart of every film and high-end TV production. This course will give you the time and focus to delve deep into the art and craft of cinematography.
This Five-day course is focused on getting to the very heart of film and high-end TV. The art form of Cinematography. Which is lighting, framing, focus and movement, all based around storytelling.
The week will begin with discussions around the art form and the craft of cinematography. Along with getting to know the equipment. Especially the industry-standard Arri Alexa camera system. From there, the week will develop based on the needs and direction of the students. You will begin lighting a simple shot. Looking at interviews and portraiture. Before moving on to working with daylight, lighting from the outside, scenes with multiple subjects, and then adding in camera movement. Students can direct the focus of the sessions based on their interests and perhaps project needs.
Other aspects of cinematography will be covered such as location recce’s, the roles of the Focus puller, Clapper Loader, Gaffer, Spark and Grip.
Based on practical, hands-on workshops as well as fluid discussion and debates around the art and craft of cinematography, this 5-day course is ideal for anyone interested in a career as a cinematographer, or the many other roles within the cinematography department on film or high-end TV. By the end of this course, you will have a new level of understanding about telling a story with camera and lighting.
This course would be a campus experience, with an online element of additional content and a closed social media group for networking and further discussion.

Fees for all students include course materials, use of specialist facilities and lunch from Monday to Friday. We do not normally provide evening meals, as this is an opportunity for students to explore the many places to eat in Lincoln that will suit a variety of budgets and dietary requirements.
With accommodation, the option includes breakfast and lunch Monday to Friday and you must be over 18 years of age on the day the summer school commences.

All courses are taught in English, if English is not your native language we expect you will have a minimum level of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent.
