Summer Schools 2018 - Creative Futures

The College of Arts

Are you creative, an aspiring designer, architect or a budding performer or dancer? Thinking about a future in the creative and cultural industries and how higher education might make this possible?

This July, 2018 the University of Lincoln are offering 3 summer schools for you to choose from. Through a series of hands on activities and workshops you will explore what it is like to study creative subjects at University. Each 5-day summer school will run from 9:30 to 4:30, Monday to Friday and is targeted at students in year 11, 12, 13 or equivalent.

SUMMER SCHOOL 1. Architecture & Design: Creative Futures, 16 to 20th July
The purpose of this summer school is to inspire students to value and develop their creative talents and the potential to progress through higher education courses into careers and vocations in the creative industries.  The week will be broken down into a series of hands-on taster workshops based round various design disciplines of product design, architecture, communications design, interior design and digital heritage. What's included:

  • Workshops and tips on how to prepare your portfolio for a University interview
  • Practical workshops making and developing your ideas
  • Access and use of workshops and equipment.

SUMMER SCHOOL 2. Contemporary Dance, 23rd to 27th July
This summer school is an ideal opportunity to get a taster of a typical University Dance course and experience practical, professional training.  Highlights include: daily practical technique classes in different contemporary styles, choreographic and creative workshops with industry professionals, additional evening activities, and an end of week sharing performance for family and friends.

  • Gain a wider understanding of multiple contemporary dance styles
  • Gain confidence from participating in a final sharing performance
  • Gain greater understanding of how dance training in a University operates

SUMMER SCHOOL 3. Acting and Stage Combat, 30th July to 3rd August
This summer school provides an opportunity to learn the essential techniques for acting and stage combat. However, we also want students to learn some of the key performance skills with movement, improvisation and voice control and consequently build confidence in themselves and their abilities to perform on stage and in everyday life. Students will also have the opportunity to take a qualification in Unarmed Combat awarded by the examining body, The Academy of Performance Combat. What's including:

  • Practical tutorials and training in stage combat for stage and screen
